I feel pretty, and witty, and gay!

The Producers

by Shawn Snead / December 27th, 2005
From the big screen to Broadway and back to the big screen. That is Mel Brooks's (just one of his) masterpiece, The Producers.
I've never seen the stage production of The Producers. However, I have seen the updated celluloid version, and I must tell you, this is entertainment.
Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick, as I'm sure they must have been on stage, are just a joy to watch together. After show after show of becoming these characters, it is natural that Lane and Broderick completely inhabit the characters of Bialystock and Bloom. Lane, who I've always admired and respected as a genuine talent, gives what could be his best performance ever. Uma Thurman and Will Ferrell are the new kids on the block here. For someone without any theater experience, Uma is fine as the loopy, but stunning, Swede native, Ulla. Ferrell is uproarious as Neo-Nazi Franz Liebken.
This 2005 film adaptation is, without a doubt, one of the best times at the movies that I've had all year. I can't emphasize how much fun this film was for me. Its minor flaws are very easily overlooked in light of the genuinely entertaining time it provides.
